∫ How to hold a disc
Do not touch the recorded surface.
∫ Concerning non-cartridge discs
Be careful about scratches and dirt.
∫ If there is dirt or condensation on the disc
Wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry.
∫ Handling precautions
≥Do not attach labels or stickers to discs. (This may cause disc
warping and un-balanced rotation, rendering it unusable.)
≥Write on the label side of the disc only with a soft, oil-based felt
pen. Do not use ballpoint pens or other hard writing implements.

≥Do not use record cleaning sprays, benzine, thinner, static
electricity prevention liquids or any other solvent.
≥Do not use scratch-proof protectors or covers.
≥Do not drop stack, or impact discs. Do not place objects on them.

–Discs with exposed adhesive from removed stickers or labels
(rental discs, etc.).
–Discs that are badly warped or cracked.
–Irregularly shaped discs, such as heart
shapes.
≥Do not place in the following areas:
–In direct sunlight.
–In very dusty or humid areas.
–Near a heater.
–Locations susceptible to significant difference in temperature
(condensation can occur).
≥To protect discs from scratches and dirt, return them to their cases
or cartridges when you are not using them.
The precision parts in this unit are readily affected by the
environment, especially temperature, humidity, and dust.
Cigarette smoke also can cause malfunction or breakdown.
To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
≥Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit.
≥Before using chemically treated cloth, carefully read the
instructions that came with the cloth.
Observe the following points to ensure continued listening and
viewing pleasure.
Dust and dirt may adhere to the unit’s lens over time, making it
impossible to record or play discs.
Use the DVD lens cleaner (RP-CL720E) about once every year,
depending on frequency of use and the operating environment.
Carefully read the lens cleaner’s instructions before use.
When playing PAL disc, picture
distorted.
≥Set “Transfer” in Picture menu to “Auto”. 22
When playing DivX disc, picture

It takes time before play starts. ≥This is normal on DivX video. —
Picture stops. ≥Picture may stop if the DivX files are greater than 2 GB. —
Cannot format. ≥The disc is dirty. Wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry.
≥You tried formatting a disc that is not compatible with this unit.

Cannot create chapters.
Cannot mark the start point or

Delete” operation.
≥The unit writes the chapter division information to the disc when you turn it off or remove
the disc. The information is not written if there is an interruption to the power before this.

≥You cannot set points if they are too close to each other. You cannot set an end point before
a start point.

The available recording space

≥Available recording space on DVD-R, DVD-R DL, +R or +R DL does not increase even after
deleting previously recorded titles.
≥Available recording space on DVD-RW (DVD-Video format) or +RW increases only when
the last recorded title is deleted. It does not increase if other titles are deleted.

Cannot create a playlist. ≥You cannot select all the chapters at once in a title if the title also includes still pictures.

To return all the settings other
than the main ones to the factory
preset.
≥Select “Yes” in “Shipping Condition” in the Setup menu. All the settings except for the
ratings level, ratings password and time settings return to the factory preset. The timer
recording programmes are also cancelled.
≥Select “Yes” in “Default Settings” in the Setup menu. All the settings other than the
programmed channels, time settings, country settings, language settings, disc language
settings, ratings level, ratings password, remote control code, return to the factory presets.
≥Press and hold [X CH] and [CH W] on the main unit until the Country setting screen
appears. All the settings except for the ratings level, ratings password and time settings
return to the factory preset. The timer recording programmes are also cancelled.
